As a first year BME student, you have the option of studying in the beautiful city of Medellín, Colombia at Universidad Pontificia Bolivaria (UPB). UPB is ranked as one of the top four universities in Colombia and has recently been internationally accredited by the EQUAA. The university is located in the heart of the vibrant city of Medellín. Medellín is nicknamed the “City of Eternal Spring” because of the great, temperate climate of the region all year-long. The city is known for its coffee, night life, expansive mountainsides, and tourist-friendly locals. Studying at UPB will give you a global academic experience, paired with the ability to practice your Spanish and learn about the unique Colombian culture.

The costs of studying at the UPB in Medellín, for 2026-2027, consists of the following components:
Tuition fee: 13 073 813 COP / semester OR approx. €3060 / semester*
Monthly cost of living**: 600 to 700 euros

The quality of the student accommodation significantly contributes to your overall BME experience, especially when studying a full year in a foreign location for the first time. Some international students, especially coming outside of Latin America, will be required to get a student visa in order to study and stay in Colombia for the whole academic year. Visas can take up to 3 months to process and require official documentation. Consult the Colombian embassy or consulate of your country to find more information about study visas.
