Fachhochschule Aachen (FH Aachen) in Germany

At FH Aachen, first-year BME participants study at the Faculty of Business Studies, with over 2400 students its largest faculty. For more than 40 years the Faculty of Business Studies has successfully educated in economics, practice and value-orientation. The FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1971 after the merger of several technical colleges and vocational training centres. It looks back on more than 100 years of practice-oriented educational tradition. Theory and practice are closely linked during the entire course of study, in part due to the close connection with professional practice and staff of 230 professors and approximately 700 employees engaged in teaching and research.

A special advantage of the FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences is the central location of Aachen, in close proximity to Belgium and the Netherlands. This internationality in teaching and studies is an essential and unique feature of the FH Aachen to prepare students for the demands of a globalised working world and to develop the capability of cross-cultural collaboration. At this time, the percentage of students from abroad totals more than 19%.

Apart from the variable transportation costs students incur when travelling to and from their home country, the following 3 cost estimates need to be considered for participating in BME's first year:
  • the one-time application fee prior to joining the 3-year BME programme
  • the cost of living near the first-year partner institution
  • the yearly tuition or other fees specific to the first-year partner institution
The one-time application fee depends on where the applicant's previous schooling took place and maximally amounts to € 50. Refer to the Join Us page for details.

Estimates of the cost of living near FH Aachen vary with the specific student's lifestyle, but a typical figure is between € 700 an € 800 per month.

Before the semester starts, a mandatory social contribution (Sozialbeitrag) of about € 290 per semester has to be paid. This contribution is not a tuition fee. It is used for the benefit of the Studierendenwerk Aachen (housing and social affairs) and includes the student mobility ticket (public transport). This ticket is valid for a period of one semester and allows the use of public transport in North Rhine-Westphalia, excluding high-speed trains.

Non-German applicants must pay an application fee of € 75 via Uni Assist.

The quality of the student accommodation significantly contributes to a participant's overall BME experience, especially when studying a full year in a foreign location for the first time. Therefore carefully research housing options before committing to a selection. Always visit the accommodation before sending a first deposit or signing the contract. Specifically for exploring accommodation possibilities near FH Aachen:
